Position : Maintenance Manager
Reporting To : General Manager
Reporting Level : Management
Reporting to the General Manager, the incumbent will be required to define methodology, the manpower, the spares, other resources, and the work of programming necessary in order to achieve efficient and safe maintenance in line with technical standards.
To maintain all standards in the Maintenance Department including spare parts store management and to create a safe, preventative and predictive maintenance in the Plant.
You will be responsible for managing and coordinating activities as well as ensuring compliance with the relevant GMR 2.1 appointment with regards to Compliance to OHS.
KEY OUTPUTS OF POSITION
- Implement and maintain preventative maintenance program.
- Take responsibility for compliance and Occupational Health and Safety.
- Define the detail methodology for carrying out all maintenance activities according to priorities and the required skills, resources, coordination, and supervision.
- Formulate maintenance activities according to the priorities and skills.
- Managing the maintenance department to ensure that legislated requirements are implemented.
- Prepare Capex and control maintenance expenditure against budget.
- Manage engineering maintenance workshop facility.
- Ensure routine servicing and repairs.
- Coordinate all spare parts for the critical maintenance activities.
- To determine plant constraints, establish job constraints by coordinating availability of resources, ensure adherence to specific operation priorities, review the priorities, and planned work orders and review work backlog.
- To accumulate all plant maintenance orders, pertaining to categories regular maintenance, condition-based maintenance, SHE orders, Project orders, refurbishment orders that have been allocated to a revision, namely a planned outage date.
- To draw all spares and materials that are required for task on the project shut plan.
- Continuously participate in the review and update of the work instructions in the system, thereby improving the way maintenance is executed.
- Coordinate the necessary materials such as spare parts.
- Attend to technical query by operation personnel and provide advice/solution according to best engineering practise to address issues which affect the operation.
- Supervise work execution on site; develop procedures and instruction for maintenance, shutdown, or project to ensure compliance to safety, specification, standard and procedures in order to achieve highest quality of the work.
- Analysing and identifying potential causes of equipment failure to prevent future problems.
- Participating in investigations of accidents or incidents to determine their causes and contributing factors.
- Determining the appropriate corrective actions for each situation, such as replacing equipment or implementing new safety procedures
- Conducting tests to determine the suitability of materials used in equipment manufacturing.
- Developing and implementing plans to improve reliability based on findings from investigations.
- Training employees on safe work procedures and maintenance protocols
- Developing methods to monitor equipment performance and detect potential problems.
- Conducting research on industry best practices for reliability to identify improvements in practices.
- Review current maintenance policies and procedures to optimize maintenance program effectiveness; develop improvements to decrease asset downtime.

- Technical condition and safe operation of boiler equipment water treatment, heat transfer equipment, plant water treatment equipment, effluent water plants
- Compliance with the management of thermal and water-chemical regimes on boilers
- Technical condition of the firefighting system as well as foam system for Extraction plant
- Technical condition and safe operation of heat transferring networks.
- Carrying out testing of critical safety devices on boilers and testing of diesel fire extinguishing pumps
- Evaluating various technologies within the business processes.
- Investigates and implements best operating practices.
- Sound safety management skills and ability
- Responsible for oversight and execution of GMR 2.1 appointed responsibilities in line with the OHS Act
- Enforce safe and secure working environment by collaborating with EHS, Maintenance and Security department regarding day-to -day activities.
- Take full responsibility for compliance and Occupational Health and Safety.
- Ensure compliance with technical specifications are to ensure quality installations.
- Attend to technical query by operation personnel and provide advice/solution according to best engineering practise to address issues which affect the operation.
- Supervise work execution on site; develop procedures and instruction for shutdown or project to ensure compliance to safety, specification, standard and procedures to achieve highest quality of the work.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Grade 12
- Min. B Eng. / B Tech
- Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) compulsory
- Minimum of 7-10 years of working experience in Industrial Maintenance in FMCG Environment or similar.
- Computer literate in MS Office (Word, Excel)
- Working experience in the soya and sunflower crush plant will be beneficial.
- Working experience in silo’s/edible oil extraction plant will be beneficial
- Computer Literate in Ms Word and Excel
