Job purpose:
Standerton Oil Mills is seeking a reliable, safety‑conscious and multi‑skilled Logistics Operator to support logistics operations across Seed Intake, Warehouse, Oil & Meal Loading, and Weighbridge. This role requires a hands‑on individual with strong attention to detail, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic production environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant movement of materials within the plant.
Key Performance Areas:
- Safe Operation of Logistics Equipment
- Operate logistics equipment across Seed Intake, Warehouse, Meal and Oil Loading, and Weighbridge areas in a safe, controlled, and competent manner.
- Conduct pre‑use inspections on all equipment to identify defects, hazards, or non‑conformities before operation.
- Adhere strictly to all site‑specific safety protocols, lock‑out/tag‑out (LOTO) procedures, and mandatory PPE requirements at all times.
- Immediately stop unsafe operations and escalate any equipment or process abnormalities.
- Compliance With Safety, Legal, and Operational Standards
- Ensure full compliance with company safety rules, legal requirements, work permits (hot work, confined space, height work), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Actively participate in safety programmes, including risk assessments, toolbox talks, incident reporting, and Eyes on Risk observations.
- Report unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and near‑misses promptly to prevent injuries and operational interruptions.
- Product Handling, Weighing, and Documentation
- Perform accurate weighing of raw materials, finished product, by‑products, and dispatch loads according to operational guidelines.
- Complete all documentation (weighbridge slips, intake logs, dispatch records, stock movement registers) with precision and integrity.
- Ensure correct product identification, segregation, and record‑keeping supporting traceability, food‑safety requirements, and compliance audits.
- Conduct measurements such as product temperature, tank levels, and stock readings as required.
- Equipment Monitoring, Housekeeping and Minor Maintenance
- Conduct routine checks on equipment such as intake conveyors, pumps, loaders, weighbridges, and loading systems.
- Perform minor maintenance tasks where competent (e.g., tightening fittings, clearing blockages, basic troubleshooting).
- Maintain a clean, organised, and audit‑ready work environment in allocated operational areas.
- Identify and report equipment faults, lubrication issues, leaks, unusual noise, vibration, or performance deviations.
- Operational Support, Stock Control and Reporting
- Assist with receiving, storing, loading, and dispatching product in line with warehouse/logistics workflows.
- Support accurate stock‑take processes, stock rotation (FIFO), and product quality checks.
- Record operational data daily and report variances, wastage, or discrepancies to the Logistics Supervisor or Manager.
- Maintain consistent communication with relevant departments to support smooth workflow and timely decisions.
- Risk Identification and Issue Escalation
- Proactively monitor operational conditions and highlight process changes, risks, or potential hazards.
- Immediately report breakdowns, operational delays, contamination risks, or abnormal product conditions.
- Support corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) after equipment failures or process deviations.
- Cooperate with maintenance, safety, and quality teams during investigations, audits, and inspections.
Minimum Criteria:
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Computer literacy.
- Relevant experience in logistics, warehousing, or process operations.
- Advantageous knowledge/skills:

- National Diploma in Logistics or related field
- Heavy Vehicle Licence
- Mechanical aptitude
- Experience in soya/sunflower crush plants or edible oil production
Skills, Knowledge and Experience required:
- 3-5 years’ experience in all logistics department, warehousing, or process operations, preferably within soya, sunflower, or edible‑oil processing environments.
- Knowledge of logistical equipment, seed‑intake processes and weighing systems.
- Basic understanding of food‑safety compliance and plant‑specific quality requirements.
- Technical aptitude with mechanical awareness of plant equipment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work well in a team and other departments.
- Proven ability to follow safety rules, operational procedures and maintain disciplined work practices.
- Accuracy, attention to detail and basic troubleshooting ability.
- Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, teamwork, adaptability and willingness to learn.
- Computer literacy sufficient for reporting, documentation and system‑based operations.
