Job Purpose
The Coffee Controller - Brazil is responsible for providing leadership for all accounting, reporting, and business controlling activities for the Coffee business in Brazil. The role ensures the integrity of financial results under Brazilian GAAP and IFRS, in line with COFCO International corporate policies and guidelines.
This position acts as a key business partner to traders and functional teams in Brazil, supporting the local Coffee business to achieve its targets by providing financial insight, identifying and mitigating risks, and contributing to the effectiveness and efficiency of operations.
The role collaborates closely with the Global Coffee Controller and other regional controllers to ensure the Coffee business in Brazil is properly managed and controlled and aligned with global processes and standards.
Responsibilities
Financial Reporting
- Responsible for all financial aspects of Coffee business transactions in Brazil.
- Participate in and manage the preparation of local financial statements in accordance with Brazilian GAAP and IFRS, ensuring compliance with local regulations and Group requirements.
- Perform detailed review of the Brazilian balance sheet and P&L to ensure compliance with Group reporting requirements; prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and provide commentary on monthly results to Senior Management and the Global Controller.
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of information in local Accounting Systems and their consistency with the Trading System and Group reporting tools.
- Work closely with market risk and trading desks in Brazil to assess mark-to-market pricing against observable market data; review and document physical inventory, derivatives, and open contract mark-to-market reports for the Brazil portfolio.
- Review calculation of interest and working capital usage for the Brazilian Coffee business and ensure alignment with global methodologies.
- Review monthly operating expenses and SG&A in Brazil and post accruals as necessary.
- Ensure the Brazilian Coffee business operates under the defined control framework; support local management to revise control activities and promptly address and communicate any issues.
Business Controlling
- Implement and maintain global policies and procedures for the Coffee business within Brazil, ensuring local compliance and proper documentation.
- Lead and coordinate the Budget and Forecast planning process for the Coffee business in Brazil, in alignment with global guidelines.
- Own the daily and monthly P&L and position reporting for Brazil, ensuring month-end accounting P&L results are reconciled to trade estimates and Group reporting.
- Perform ad hoc analysis of significant P&L movements in Brazil, including variance analysis versus budget, forecast and prior periods.
- Provide detailed month-end analysis for Brazilian trade desks to FP&A and Strategy teams, supporting performance review and decision-making.
- Work closely with regional and global finance teams to ensure consistency of processes, controls, and reporting standards.
- Coordinate internal and external audit activities for the Coffee business in Brazil, including liaising with auditors and other functional areas to satisfy requirements.
- Continuously seek to automate and streamline local processes and procedures, contributing to global standardization where possible.
- Work collaboratively with functional support groups (operations, logistics, credit, tax, IT, etc.) to ensure adequate controls from trade initiation through to cash collection and accurate posting to the ledger.
- Respond to inquiries from local and global stakeholders, facilitating communication and providing guidance on financial and control-related matters.
Business Partnering
- Act as the primary finance point of contact for the Coffee business in Brazil, handling day-to-day finance-related questions independently and effectively.
- Provide clear and timely explanations and guidance to traders, operations, and other functions on P&L, positions, working capital and risk exposures.
- Participate in regular discussions and forums with Operations and Commercial teams in Brazil, highlighting issues relevant for month-end closing, performance and risk management.
- Work closely with Brazilian business and functional heads to ensure alignment with the global Coffee platform’s strategies, policies and reporting structures.
- Maintain and adapt local reporting structures to remain aligned with evolving business needs and global requirements.
- Act as an active member of the broader Softs finance community, contributing local insight and best practices and supporting global initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s/Master’s in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related; CRC/CPA a plus.
- 7+ years in commodity trading controlling or agribusiness finance; coffee or softs exposure strongly preferred.
- Solid knowledge of IFRS, hedge accounting basics, derivatives (futures/options), inventory/costing, revenue recognition and FX.
- Hands‑on experience with CTRM and ERP (SAP); strong Excel/BI (Power BI) skills.
- Languages: Portuguese (fluent) and English (fluent); Spanish a plus.
- Comfortable in hybrid set‑up with regular presence in Santos office (≥4 days/week).
