Global Coffee Controller

Job Purpose
The position is responsible for provide leadership for accounting and reporting for Global Coffee division. Ensure the integrity of its financial results (both in local and IFRS standards), following corporate policies and guidelines. Act as business partner with traders and other team members in supporting Coffee Business to achieve its goals, by providing a financial approach to identify, assessing and mitigating risks while contributing to the effectiveness and efficiency of operations. Engage with functions and regional leaders to ensure Coffee business is properly managed and controlled in all countries. This position will report directly to the Global Controller for Softs.

 

Responsibilities
COFCO International Ltd has a high-profile opportunity for a skilled and team-oriented business controller to join the finance team. This position will directly be responsible for the global business controlling activities of the Coffee division of CIL. Key responsibilities are: ensure the business financial reporting integrity and compliance with the local/IFRS accounting standards and the CIL corporate policies and guidelines; owe the managerial P&L results, ensuring consistency of the reporting of figures with the standards defined by CIL; act as a global finance leader working with the regional teams where Coffee is located to ensure consistency and alignment across the world in terms of process and controls; act as business partner with the traders around the world for all finance related topics to support the business to achieve its strategy goals. 


Financial Reporting

  • Responsible for all financial aspects of the Coffee business transactions in the US.
  • Participate and manage the preparation of financial statements in accordance with IFRS.
  • Perform detailed review of balance sheet and P&L to ensure compliance with Group reporting requirements. Update monthly balance sheet accounts analysis and provide commentary to Senior Management on monthly results.
  • Ensure accuracy of the information in the Accounting Systems consistent with the Trading System.
  • Work closely with market risk to assess the mark-to-market pricing against observable market data. Review and document physical inventory, derivatives and open contract mark-to-market reports.
  • Review calculation of interest & working capital usage for the global business.
  • Review monthly operating expenses and sales, general and administrative expenses, and post accruals as necessary.
  • Act as a leader to ensure the business operates under the pre-defined control framework, assisting leaders to revise control activities and to address and immediately communicate issues.

 

Business Controlling

  • Develop policies and procedures for the business to be followed in all countries.
  • Prepares and manages Budget Planning process for the global business.
  • Oversight/Responsibility of the daily processes reporting to group: global P&L and Position, ensuring month end accounting P&L results are reconciled to the Trade estimate.
  • Adhoc analysis of significant P&L moves of the business.
  • Provide detailed month-end analysis of the individual trade desks to FP&A and Strategy teams.
  • Work closely with other regions to drive consistency in the group.
  • Manage the internal and external audit for the business which includes coordinating the requirements being pushed to other functional areas.
  • Continuously look to automate and streamline processes and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with the functional support groups to ensure adequate controls through the trade initiation to cash process and straight through processing to the ledger where possible.
  • Responds to inquiries from a wide variety of sources for the purpose of facilitating communication and/or providing guidance among several parties.

 

Business Partnering

  • Act independently while being main point of contact for the business on any finance related question.
  • The role is pivotal for answering questions on a day-to-day basis about various topics.
  • Attend constant discussions and forums with Operations and Commercial areas to highlight any issues that may be relevant to the month end.
  • Work closely with business and funtional heads to ensure aligned with global Coffee platform.
  • Maintenance of reporting structure to be aligned with business needs.
  • Act as a strong participant of the softs finance leadership team.

 

Requirements

  • University degree in Accounting, Finance or Business.
  • CPA is desirable. MBA also desirable.
  • Minimum 15 years of accounting/financial managerial position with a multinational trading company.
  • Proven experience in trading accounting, preferable in Coffee commodity.
  • IFRS knowledge.
  • Preferably with proven international work assignment experience.
  • Experience with SOX is desirable.
  • Ability to integrate the function into the operational and strategic business plans.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks concurrently with a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Leadership and conflict resolution.
  • Excellent English language skills - verbal and written.
